Double Bowl Auto Feed Cuts Cycle Time in Half

Decrease Cycle Time of Your Assembly Process

An industrial tool manufacturer contacted ASG looking to decrease the cycle time of their assembly process with the installation of 7 screws; 5 short and 2 long. The company was using pneumatic tools with the operator manually picking up and installing the fasteners.

After assessing the situation, ASG was able to eliminate the manufacturing issues by implementing X-PAQ and a premium auto feed system. The ASG Precision Fastening X-PAQ is a torque and angle controlled brushless DC electric tool system -- an affordable precision torque control and data management system with intuitive and user-friendly programming. This solution collects torque and angle data, and provides accurate and repeatable torque while alerting the operator of both good and no good results.

ASG also proposed a double auto feed bowl system to cut the cycle time in half. The premium auto feed system automatically sends screws from the bowl to the screwdriver. The positioning and tightening of the screw on the workpiece is semi-automatic, eliminating the need for the operator to manually pick up the screw. With a double bowl feed, long screws would be kept in one bowl, and short screws in the other.

The premium torque arm with encoders, along with the Nav-P 4.0 HMI, completed this solution. The system offers value and flexibility by supporting up to 4 encoders on a variety of different torque arm styles, ensuring there are no missed fasteners in the assembly process. The intuitive system makes sure the proper length screw was driven into the correct location. Line control and communication with the tool controller were accomplished using digital I/O.
