ATEQ Acquires Aviation Adapter Company, Cobra Systems

Pitot static testers & adapters

Aviation test equipment manufacturer, ATEQ Aviation, has recently acquired a Chicago-based manufacturing company. Since 2002, Cobra Systems, Inc. has specialized in test adapters and kits for all aircraft. Founded in 2008, ATEQ Aviation is the newest of ATEQ Group’s three divisions. Aviation takes its place alongside the Leak Testing and Tire Pressure Monitoring divisions. ATEQ Aviation has three major test equipment lines which include Battery Testers, Resistance Testers, and its flagship product line – Pitot Static Test Kits.

ATEQ has been the leader in measurement testing for over 40 years and, prior to the acquisition, had a basic range of pitot and static adapters to go with their testers. With so many brands and models of aircraft, it was becoming difficult to keep up with the pitot tube and static port connections that the customers were requesting. ATEQ pursued a partnership with Cobra Systems to keep their focus on manufacturing the safest, best test equipment on the market. Cobra Systems is the only American Pitot Static adapter manufacturer. What makes their adaptors unique is the high-quality (aircraft grade) aluminum and stainless-steel fittings used in production.

ATEQ’s acquisition of Cobra Systems, Inc. was made official in May 2018. This merger created the only company on the market with the capacity to offer a complete Pitot-Static Testing Solution with a full range of testers and adapters for any aircraft. Combining the product lines of the two businesses was an obvious decision for both companies.

“Having hundreds of different adapters we can sell with our testers or independently, gives ATEQ a reliable new stream of recurring sales,” said Patrick Brousseau, ATEQ Aviation North America Manager. “Cobra has a strong reputation on the market and is well-known with important aviation equipment distributors, military markets and is approved by Boeing and Airbus. These connections will be very helpful in bringing more attention to ATEQ’s test equipment.”

Sharing access to each other’s established customer base was a primary draw for both parties. ATEQ was eager to expand their product line and reach a more extensive audience. Cobra Systems wanted to expand their workforce and broaden their global presence with a respected tester manufacturer. With ATEQ having more than 500 employees worldwide at over 40 locations, this would give Cobra Systems access to more resources to reach international customers.

ATEQ’s Aviation Sales and Service Department will be moving from their USA headquarters in Livonia, Michigan to merge with Cobra System’s just outside of Chicago, Illinois. Since ATEQ and Cobra attend the same tradeshows in the US, the two will partner up and co-exhibit in not only America but at new international tradeshows. While many aspects of the companies have been merged, for the immediate future Cobra and ATEQ will continue to operate under their individual brand names.
