6 ways to destroy your Rockwell hardness tester

Don't try this at home!

Durometers are very delicate, even if they don't show it.

Often, mistakes are made involuntarily which can lead to immediate or slow damage to the hardness tester.

Everyone has happened at least once to block the penetrator or to trigger the state of emergency. It's normal, it happens to anyone.

But why wait to make a faux pas to figure out which mistakes lead to a problem?

That's why we wanted to summarize 6 actions to absolutely avoid.

Let's see them one by one.

1-Not respecting the orthogonality and flatness of the sample with respect to the support surface.

Take a look here https://tify.cc/swWRW, we wanted to take this concept to the extreme, putting our Rockwell hardness tester to the test.

2-Use a hammer to unlock the elevation screw

3-Oil the hardness tester abundantly

4-Use pliers to remove the indenter

5-Carry out the calibration using only one sample which, moreover, has a printed label in contact with the anvil.

In fact, the reference standards say to use more than one sample to make a comparison. And it is vital, moreover, to make sure that the label is placed on the side of the specimen and not at the base, to avoid distorting the test results.

6-Move the sample during the hardness test.

Avoiding these actions will allow you to always be in safety conditions during the test cycle, both for you and for the hardness tester itself.

Clearly there are production environments that can stress the hardness tester more than necessary, and to these, unfortunately, there are no additional tips or advice to follow. Everything also depends on the performance of the hardness tester in your hands.

Having a tool that addresses these uncertainties is very helpful.

That's why we designed our Rockwell AXE440 hardness tester.

Our R&D team developed it to guarantee maximum comfort of use, even in extreme situations!
