Vibration monitoring of pumps, the problems and defects of aggregates

The vibration of the pumps must be monitored regularly because she's in a short time can destroy any equipment. If the check indicates that vibration has reached (exceeded) the specified upper level, should urgently take the necessary measures.

Vibration monitoring of pumps shall be carried out and stationary measuring instruments, and portable devices.

The causes of vibration and devices to control them.

Assume that the pump unit is in working condition. The practice of our division of technical service (DTS) showed that the main sources of vibration of the pumps are:

• Problems with lubrication. To solve used set of BALTECH OA-5000, which allows to assess the condition of the lubricant in the pump;

• Defects of the bearings. Used the vibration meter BALTECH VP-3410, measuring vibration of the pumps;

• The unbalance of the impeller. Use the vibrometer-balancer BALTECH VP-3460;

• Misalignment of pump and driver. There is a shaft alignment system BALTECH SA-4300 and calibrated plates BALTECH-23458N.

Regulations.

If the pump power exceeds 10 MW, the definition of the vibration level is based on the standard 30576-98, wherein the values of the deviations, the maximum allowable from the norm parameter.

If the power of the pump is less than 10 MW, shall enter into force requirements of the standard ISO 9905:1994. Note, however, that the provisions of instruments in tune with each other, so you can only use an international standard.

Measurement of vibration pumps.

An assessment of vibration pumps is performed in the frequency range 10-1000 Hz, the maximum value of the RMS value, which is obtained in the measurement.

All pivot bearings of the unit shall be inspected, and measurement is carried out in 3 mutually perpendicular planes:

• Vertical;

• Horizontal, which is across the working shaft;

• Horizontal, located along the pump axis.

The sensor is attached to the middle of the top bearing cover (vertical dimension) of the bearing, if the measurement is vertical on the bearing housing side at the middle of the shaft, if the measurement is horizontal and transverse to the bearing housing from the end at the middle of the shaft, if the dimensions are horizontal-axis.

Vibration not to exceed a rate of 7.1 mm/s is considered normal. If the vibration level of the pump more than 11.2 mm/s, the pump unit may only be operated for a short time.

The frequency of vibration monitoring of pumps depends on the specific product. In critical cases vibration control can run constantly and using the alarm.
