IT and electronic technologies no longer just provide support to production process automation, but are now integrated into objects, materials, equipment and environments, which as a result become interconnected cyber-physical systems equipped with “intelligence” to exchange information rather than just receive it. This represents a seismic shift: so much so that it has been christened the fourth industrial revolution, or Industry 4.0, where the 0 also signifies the outcome that it tends towards: zero errors! Thanks to the development of certain technologies such as the IOT (Internet of Things), big data, cloud computing and wireless sensor networks (WSN) it has become possible to collect and compare data in real- time which, if managed automatically by motorised systems, will enable the appropriate and accurate management of the ZERO-ERROR production process. A greater reduction of time-to-market and a more careful assessment of the Total Cost of Ownership are some of the results made possible by ever increasing connectivity between man and machine, between internal company departments, and between a company and the outside world. In the packaging and bottling industry, the issue of efficient management of products of different sizes through a rapid change-over is an increasingly crucial point for the achievement of more flexible production processes, optimising times and costs, and at the same time increasing quality by eliminating errors due to the manual nature of adjustments. In practice, obtaining fast, precise and repeatable adjustments has become a common goal/result, first and foremost for us at Bett Sistemi as leaders in format change, to offer even more effective solutions within an Industry 4.0 framework, i.e. completely automated and able to be integrated into the company network for remote management.
