Cooperation between BlueSens and EXPUTEC

Biomass soft sensor is integrated in the gas analyzer. Additional cooperation on trade fairs.

BlueSens gas sensor GmbH and EXPUTEC GmbH cooperate in the future in the field of bioprocess analytics. From the beginning of 2016, the combined CO2/O2 gas analyzer BlueInOne by BlueSens is equipped with the EXPUTEC´s soft sensor for biomass. "As a result of this cooperation BlueSens´ BlueVis software will have the capability to calculate in real time the production of biomass and growth rates during the fermentation" explains Dr. Holger Müller, one of the managing directors of BlueSens gas sensor GmbH.

A soft sensor is a virtual sensor, which calculates unknown command variables and characteristic values from the known measurements in a process. For the calculation in BlueVis the EXPUTEC soft sensor calculates the biomass and growth rates from the known process data, for example, gas concentrations at the inlet and the outlet of the fermenter and the feeding rates. "The products of EXPUTEC and BlueSens complement each other extremely well for this application. The BlueInOne provides the measurement data and the EXPUTEC soft sensor then calculates the biomass in BlueVis," explains the EXPUTEC´s CEO Ulrich Tröller.

The company EXPUTEC is specialized in software and consulting for process development, process optimization and scale-up for the biotechnical and chemical industries.

BlueSens manufactures gas sensors and software for bioprocess engineering and is specialized in the measurement and the control of fermentation processes.

The two companies are also cooperating on trade fairs and congresses and will exhibit there together. As a prelude both enterprises had a joint booth during the 11th Colloquium for Process Analytics at the Vienna University of Technology at the beginning of December. After the event, Ulrich Tröller remarked: "The colloquium in Vienna was a complete success. Together we were able to show how the interplay of the sensor, the soft sensor and the software enable a significant step in the development of cost effective bioprocessing control solutions".
