The Food-Grade Washing Line in Sonnex was started up smoothly

Boretech Environmental Engineering Co.,Ltd. and Sonnex Packaging’s collaboration on the PET hashtag#bottletobottle project in Nigeria

Recently, the PET bottle-to-bottle project of Sonnex Packaging Nigeria Ltd in Lagos, Nigeria, has successfully commenced operations, supported by Boretech’s PET recycling technology, with an annual capacity of 21,000 tonnes of food-grade hashtag#rPETpellets. The goal of the project is aligned with Nigeria's current ambition to address the plastic pollution.

On June 25, Nigerian government announced a ban on single-use plastics in government offices as a prelude to a nation-wide ban set to begin in January 2025, which marks a significant step toward addressing pressing environmental issues caused by hashtag#plasticwaste, such as bags, straws, and bottles in Nigeria.

A recent study by the United States Agency for International Development found that Nigeria is one of the world's largest plastic polluters, generating more than 2.5 million tons of plastic waste each year, of which more than 70% ends up in the ocean and landfills.

Therefore, it is crucial to establish a sound plastic waste management system and create a circular economy to solve the serious plastic pollution problem.

Sonnex Packaging Company, a subsidiary of the Mohinani Group - one of the largest packaging conglomerates in West Africa, was established in 2000 as a manufacturer specializing in flexible, lightweight packaging materials and PET bottles.

In pursuit of corporate social responsibility and accelerating its sustainable development goals, Sonnex launched the PET bottle hashtag#recycling project in Lagos in 2022. This ambitious endeavor aims to annually produce 21,000 tonnes of food-grade rPET pellets from post-consumer PET bottles through a comprehensive process that involves sieving, washing, sorting, crushing, pelletizing, and SSP. By integrating Boretech's advanced PET recycling and washing equipment and technology with European SSP and pelletizing technology, Sonnex strives to supply brand owners with the finest quality recycled PET pellets and offer optimal packaging solutions.

The project has recently commenced successful operations. This milestone achievement holds significant importance for Sonnex's aspiration to become the largest supplier of food-grade hashtag#rPETflakes in Nigeria.
