The Use of Rapidox Gas Analysers in Education - Part 1

Various university departments require gas analysis solutions as part of their laboratory test equipment, such as chemistry, engineering & medicine. Cambridge Sensotec have discovered numerous and interesting applications in which their Rapidox analysers are employed within. Amongst many, the following applications provide a brief snapshot of examples.

Gloveboxes

Widely used within research studies, gloveboxes are designed to create isolated environments when working with materials sensitive to ambient environments. Oxygen analysers are incorporated within gloveboxes in order to ensure the stability of the environment & to analyse the residual oxygen levels within any inert gases used. Cambridge Sensotec have supplied a number of Rapidox zirconia oxygen analysers to universities including Glasgow & the Imperial College London where they are used to monitor the storage of samples and chemicals, and the research of solar cells within glovebox applications.

Geoscience

The exploration of forces & factors that shape the earth and its environments, geoscience studies focus on geological processes & environmental sciences. Carbon capture or sequestration refers to the capture & long term storage of carbon dioxide from the atmosphere. A charcoal called biochar is currently under investigation for its potential effectiveness within the process. The Biochar Research Centre, based in the School of Geosciences at the University of Edinburgh, have utilised the Rapidox 3100EB analyser in order to carry out CO & H2O analysis of the thermal decomposition of biomass within this procedure.

Bioscience

Encompassing many areas of science that directly impact everyday lives, bioscience involves the study of areas such agriculture & biomass, plant & animal development & the environment. A Rapidox 3100EA has been purchased by the Royal School of Veterinary Studies, part of the University of Edinburgh & one of the top veterinary schools within the UK. Their research spans all aspects of veterinary medicines. The 3100EA in particular is used to study respiration, with regards to the oxygen consumption & carbon dioxide production of mice.
