ZEISS EagleEye for More Productivity

"In the next generation of the ZEISS EagleEye we have focused on further improving ease of use, functionality and measuring performance," says Zeno Schmal, Engineering Product Manager in the ZEISS Industrial Metrology business group. The optical sensor was developed for use in car body metrology with ZEISS PRO horizontal-arm measuring machines in combination with the CSC sensor, allowing fast, comprehensive optical measurements in the field of car body construction. Car interior and exterior measurements are now also possible.

Automobile manufacturing requires measurements of countless boreholes in addition to edges, sections or transitions. Checking boreholes is extremely time-consuming work, particularly for serial inspection. ZEISS EagleEye considerably reduces the time required for this process. The new sensor technology achieves measuring speeds of up to five times faster than its predecessor. "This means shorter measuring times, better measuring performance and therefore higher throughput on the measuring machine – and all without loss in accuracy," says Schal. The user receives the measuring results faster, any component deviations are recognized at an earlier stage, and corrective action can be quickly initiated. This results in top-quality evaluations of the results with information on the diameter, location and form of the part feature.

The sensor is completely integrated into the CALIGO application software from ZEISS. ZEISS CALIGO supports the user with pre-settings in the sensor parameterization, and special optical knowhow is not longer required. The generation of the CNC runs in ZEISS CALIGO Offline with the optical sensor enables the simulation and optimization of a complete program run in single and dual column operations without usingvaluable measuring machine capacity for program generation. ZEISS EagleEye is optically robust and can be used for the measurement of various materials. Scanning over different material surfaces, whether matte or glossy, in a single cycle is possible without any need for re-parameterization.
