New 7 tonne diesel blends strength with clean efficiency

Advanced engine

The designers have chosen an advanced diesel engine, the Perkins 4-cylinder 854E, which comfortably meets EURO Stage IIIB emissions regulations. Built to the highest standards, this unit delivers high power with low fuel consumption and low emissions.

Key advances include a fast-response, compact turbocharger, which increases power output but uses 18% less fuel than previous engines.

Featuring the latest Diesel Particulate Filter (DPF) technology, the engine''s Passive Regeneration (PR) burns off soot during truck operation rather than needing to take downtime. The ceramic filter is maintenance-free and requires no additives such as urea.

An Engine Protection System (EPS) monitors oil pressure, coolant temperature and transmission temperature, limiting power output, travel speed and hydraulic speed if abnormalities in performance are detected.

Delivered effectively via a powershift transmission consisting of two forward and two reverse gears, the unit''s power will typically be used in applications such as handling timber, pipes, steel, fabricated metals, industrial machinery and equipment, concrete, stone, clay and glass – often in rough and difficult conditions.

Robust construction

The DP70N has a rugged steel frame, designed using Finite Element Analysis (FEA), which gives the truck a low centre of gravity for added stability and high residual capacity.

This is enhanced by its low-profile counterweight, while the durable, fully floating drive axle is able to carry more weight than semi-floating or non-floating alternatives. Construction of the steer axle in one solid unit makes it particularly strong and rigid.

The extreme resistance of all components to damage and wear helps to minimise repair and service bills. Time and money spent on routine maintenance tasks is

reduced by making items easy to view and reach, and the total cost of operation is also lowered by the engine''s excellent fuel efficiency.

Ergonomics, comfort and control

Operator-friendly features allow precise, controlled use of the truck''s power to maximise throughput. They include fully hydrostatic assisted steering, via a small-diameter steering wheel, for an accurate and rapid response with little effort.

A small turning circle and good all-round visibility contribute to manoeuvrability and precision. The mast has narrow channels, to ensure a clear forward view, and uses six load rollers with side rollers to achieve high load stability. Rear visibility is enhanced by the low-profile shape of the counterweight. A choice of up-to-date fingertip or lever controls is available for the hydraulic functions.

Control is aided by the comprehensively equipped instrument panel, which provides valuable on-the-go information and warnings. The operator compartment, accessed easily with the help of conveniently placed grab bars and steps, also offers a tiltable steering column, an adjustable full-suspension seat and plenty of leg room, so that each user can find the ideal driving position.

Safety features include vacuum-boosted hydraulic brakes and the Presence Detection System (PDS). The PDS gives an audible warning if the seat belt is not fastened and prevents all travel and hydraulic movement if the operator is not correctly seated.

For added comfort and efficiency, sound and vibration have been limited by rubber mounting of components, use of a fully insulated steel engine hood and special design of the transmission gears to reduce drivetrain noise.
