Beam Steering Mirror (BSM65) for Space LIDAR

Mechanism integrated in a Space LIDAR Module of a Weather Forecast Satellite

Cedrat Technologies (CTEC) designed, manufactured, tested and delivered the Flight Model of the Beam Steering Mirror (BSM65) to be integrated in a Space LIDAR Module of a Weather Forecast Satellite. The BSM65 aims at refocussing the back scattered light from the Earth atmosphere into the LIDAR instrument. The BSM65 consists in a 65 mm diameter SiC mirror mounted on a compact 2-rotation axis (“Tip Tilt”) steering mechanism with Strain Gages positioning sensors, mounted on a bracket including a thermal sensor. On the figure you can see the BSM65 Flight Model including amplified piezo actuators APA® and the SiC mirror polished substrate.

The BSM65 is based on a two stiff push pull pairs of APA60S® actuators. It produces more than +/-3 mrad for both axis rotations for the full -40/+65°C operational temperature spectrum with loaded mechanical resonant frequencies above 800Hz.

The next steps in the project is to qualify and test the BSM65 at the client system level before launching the manufacturing of a recurrent batch of additional flight models.
