A successful transformation of China’s first cracking gas compressor dry gas seal

EC-1301 is a cracking gas compressor of 280 thousand tons / year ethylene plant of PetroChina Daqing Petrochemical Co. The unit is made of Shenyang Blower Factory, which adopts floating ring seal. Due to the reason of the process, the oil leakage of the floating ring seal is serious; the long period operation of the device has buried the hidden dangers.

The composition of the cracking gas is complex, medium is very dirty and easy coking, which has been a forbidden zone of dry gas seal for a long time. Our company and Daqing PetroChina Co. cooperate with a common effort; after a careful research and repeated demonstration, we decided to adopt CYT’s own technology to carry out the transformation of dry gas seal for the unit. In order to reduce the risk, the high pressure cylinder of the unit had been carried out the successful transformation of dry gas seal in 2002. We gain a valuable experience. On this basis, in 2004, the low pressure and medium pressure cylinder of the unit also had been transformed successfully.

This is the China’s first time use of dry gas seal in the core unit - cracking gas compressor of the large-scale ethylene plant. The successful application of dry gas seal has laid a solid foundation for the long period operation of ethylene plant.
