New BOX Computer The BX-825 Series of Embedded PCs Designed for IoT Edge Computing

Standard-equipped with Whitelist Security Countermeasure Software.

Contec has developed embedded PCs standard-equipped with whitelist security countermeasure software and designed for IoT edge computing. Shipments of this product as the BOX Computer BX-825 Series start on March 20, 2018.

The new BX-825 Series BOX Computers (hereinafter "BX-825") feature Intel Atom quad-core processors to achieve fanless and spindleless embedded computers for industrial applications. They are equipped with three Gigabit LAN ports, making them the optimal device for IoT gateway applications that alternate connections between different network layers such as between field busses and controllers within a factory and higher-order information system networks. They comply with worldwide safety standards: CE, CB, UL, CCC, BSMI, and KC. Consolidating all embedded PCs for devices for export to the BX-825 leads to major reductions in development and operation costs.

In IoT systems that use cloud services, security countermeasures are required on Internet-connected devices for embedded PCs. BX-825 models pre-installed with Windows 10 IoT are standard-equipped with McAfee® Security for Contec (corresponding to McAfee® Application Control), which is whitelist (*1) security countermeasure software. This prevents the execution of malicious programs and protects the embedded PC from zero-day malware attacks. Furthermore, the BX-825 is a certified device that has passed the connection test with Microsoft Azure IoT Hub and has been confirmed to work with the Azure IoT Edge SDK. This greatly reduces the time needed to verify operations, which is required when constructing a system that uses Azure IoT.

[Main Features]

- Secures IoT Device for Edge Computing

This product is pre-installed with a 64-bit version of Windows 10 IoT Enterprise that supports four languages (English, Japanese, Chinese, and Korean) as well as with McAfee whitelist (*1) antivirus software. The BX-825 already has all the equipment required for an Internet-connected device. (BX-825D-DC761824)

- Three Gigabit LAN Ports for Alternating Connections Between Different Network Layers

This product is equipped with three Gigabit LAN ports. This makes it the optimal device for IoT gateway applications that alternate connections between different network layers such as between field busses and controllers within a factory and higher-order information system networks.

- Supports Worldwide Safety Standards

This product complies with worldwide safety standards: CE, CB, UL, CCC, BSMI, and KC. Consolidating all embedded PCs for devices for export to the BX-825 leads to major reductions in development and operation costs.

- Reductions in Running Costs and Energy Usage

This product uses the E3845 low power consumption Intel® Atom™ processor platform in order to achieve low power consumption while still providing sufficient performance.

- Supports a wide Range of Temperatures with Operations Guaranteed from 0 to 55°C

Stable operations of this product are possible in environments with a wide range of temperatures from 0 to 55°C.

- Slitless and Fanless Design that Reduces Maintenance and Inspection Work

This product has no heat dissipation slit and CPU fan, uses an SSD for storage, and has a completely spindleless design. This feature prevents dust and foreign materials from entering the system and greatly reduces the maintenance and inspection burden by reducing as much as possible the use of components that deteriorate with age.

*1: In this security countermeasure, the programs and codes whose execution is permitted are registered to a list in advance. The execution of all programs and codes not registered to this list is blocked. This is effective against attacks aimed at vulnerabilities prior to the release of countermeasures and corrected programs (zero-day attacks).
