Cubic NDIR High-Accuracy CO2 Sensor Meets ASHRAE New Standard

High-Precision CO2 Sensor Compliant with ASHRAE New Standard

Applying CO2 sensors to realize air ventilation control, called Demand Control Ventilation (DCV), has become increasingly popular to achieve energy savings in buildings. Recently, ASHRAE has published the new standard guidelines under Addendum ab: ANSI/ASHRAE Addendum ab to ANSI/ASHRAE Standard 62.1-2022. It is worth noting for CO2 sensors incorporated within the DCV systems, the addendum mandates the specific requirements as follows:

6.2.6.1.3.4 CO2 sensors shall be certified by the manufacturer to be accurate within ±75 ppm at concentrations of 600, 1000, and 2500 ppm when measured at sea level at 77°F (25°C). Sensors shall be factory calibrated and certified by the manufacturer to require calibration not more frequently than once every five years. Upon detection of sensor failure, the system shall provide a signal that resets the ventilation system to supply the required minimum quantity of outdoor air (Vbz) to the breathing zone for the design zone population (Pz).

Based on the rules outlined in Addendum ab to Standard 62.1-2022, CO2 sensors should meet the following five key points:

1) CO2 sensors in the DCV system should be highly accurate, meeting the accuracy requirements within the concentration range of 600, 1000 and 2500 ppm, with a deviation not exceeding +/- 75 ppm.

2) CO2 sensors in DCV should be free from frequent calibration and maintain stability for at least five years.

3) CO2 sensors should have a long lifespan, consistent with a fresh air system.

4) CO2 sensors should provide continuous monitoring and measurement capabilities.

5) CO2 sensors should be cost-effective to be integrated into the DCV system on a large scale.
