Cubic Continuous Particulate Monitoring Solution

Enabling Reliable and Comprehensive Dust Monitoring Under Thailand’s Strengthened Air Quality Regulatory Requirements

In recent years, Thailand has continued to strengthen its institutional framework for air quality management and industrial emission control. On January 21, 2026, the National Environment Board of Thailand issued a revised version of the national ambient air quality standards. The update came into effect the following day and represents a comprehensive overhaul of the country’s general ambient air quality requirements. It not only emphasizes the need to measure pollution but also raises the requirement for measurement accuracy. Further in March, Thailand advanced its emission monitoring requirements for key industrial facilities, gradually implementing Continuous Emission Monitoring Systems (CEMS) for stationary pollution sources. These systems are designed to enable long-term online recording and regulatory verification of particulate matter and other atmospheric pollutants. The regulations cover major sectors, including power generation, cement, steel, chemicals, and waste incineration, and place clear requirements on the continuity and traceability of emission data, with particulate matter concentration monitoring being one of the key focus areas.

Within the regulatory framework, particulate matter monitoring becomes critically important for flue gas monitoring from fixed emission sources and environmental dust monitoring in industrial areas and surrounding environments.

With over 20 years of R&D experience in gas sensing technologies, Cubic, a leading manufacturer of gas sensors and analyzers, offers dedicated sensing solutions for both ambient environmental particulate monitoring and industrial stationary-source particle emission monitoring, backed by established expertise in particulate sensing and measurement.

Cubic Environmental Particulate Matter Monitoring Solution

In smart cities, roadside monitoring stations, industrial park boundaries, construction sites, and community environmental networks, it is vital to achieve continuous monitoring of airborne particulate matter. In these outdoor environments, dust is typically dispersed over large areas and its concentration varies with traffic, construction activities, wind conditions, and seasonal weather changes. Reliable environmental assessment therefore depends on highly sensitive, long-term online monitoring capable of delivering stable measurements under continuously changing atmospheric conditions.

To address these challenges, Cubic developed the OPM-6303M Outdoor Particulate Monitor, a compact all-in-one solution for ambient air quality monitoring. Based on the light scattering principle, the monitor accurately measures the mass concentrations of PM1.0, PM2.5, PM4.25 (optional), PM10, and TSP. By integrating an industrial-grade laser source, constant-flow sampling pump, flow sensor, heating pretreatment module, and intelligent particle recognition algorithm into a single platform, the OPM-6303M maintains excellent measurement stability even under high humidity, temperature and rapidly changing outdoor environments.

The built-in constant-temperature pretreatment effectively minimizes moisture interference. Operating reliably from -30°C to 70°C and supporting RS485 Modbus communication, the monitor can be easily integrated into distributed environmental monitoring networks for real-time air quality management and regulatory compliance.

In heavy industrial operations, including mining stockpiles, conveyor transfer systems, crushing plants, cement production lines, steel mills, and bulk material handling facilities, particulate matter is generated continuously throughout the production process. Unlike ambient environments, these applications are characterized by high dust concentrations, coarse particles, rapidly fluctuating emission levels, and harsh operating conditions caused by equipment movement, material transportation, and process operations. These challenges require particulate monitors that not only withstand severe environments but also maintain stable and reliable performance across a much wider concentration range.

To address these needs, Cubic has developed the outdoor particle monitor, OPM-6303Q, for high-concentration particulate monitoring applications. The monitor is developed based on the light scattering principle, where changes in scattered optical signals caused by airborne particles are used to determine the mass concentrations of PM2.5, PM10, and TSP. OPM-6303Q integrates an industrial-grade laser light source and a stabilized airflow sampling structure. It is also equipped with a heating pre-treatment module and a flow monitoring unit, ensuring that the sampled air remains in a relatively stable state before entering the measurement chamber, which significantly reduces measurement interference caused by high humidity or temperature fluctuations, enabling consistent long-term and high accuracy outdoor operation.

The OPM-6303Q supports a wide measurement range 0~1,000,000ug/m³ suitable for high-dust environments, including bulk material handling sites, mining transport corridors, and industrial boundary zones. It features a fast data refresh rate and supports continuous output. In terms of environmental adaptability, the device operates within a temperature range of -30°C to 70°C, making it suitable for diverse climatic conditions, including high-temperature, low-temperature, and high-humidity regions. Installation is typically achieved via fixed pole mounting or wall mounting, supporting long-term distributed monitoring networks. It supports RS485 Modbus protocol, enabling integration into environmental monitoring platforms, which allows centralized management of multi-point data and remote access for continuous analysis of regional particulate distribution.

The OPM-6303M and OPM-6303Q provide a comprehensive particulate monitoring solution, covering applications from low-concentration ambient air quality monitoring to high-concentration industrial dust management.

Cubic Industrial Stationary Source Emission Monitoring Solution

In stationary source monitoring scenarios such as boiler flue gas, industrial kilns, and waste incinerator stacks, particulate matter monitoring is typically required to comply with continuous emission monitoring regulations. These applications often involve complex flue gas conditions, including high temperature, high humidity, and fluctuating dust concentrations, which place stringent demands on system stability and measurement reliability.

Cubic has designed the Continuous Emission Monitoring Systems (CEMS) Gasboard-9056, a high-performance dust monitoring solution. Gasboard-9056 is developed based on the laser forward scattering principle, enabling precise online measurement of particulate concentration in flue gas, with a minimum measurement range as low as 0–5 mg/m³, making it particularly suitable for stringent ultra-low emission control scenarios.

Equipped with a laser light source, Gasboard-9056 delivers high measurement accuracy, fast response speed, and strong resistance to environmental interference, ensuring reliable performance even under complex flue gas conditions. The system adopts an extractive sampling method to draw flue gas and maintains heat tracing throughout the sampling, transport, and measurement processes, which ensures that the gas remains at a high temperature throughout the system, effectively preventing condensation and minimizing its impact on particulate measurement accuracy.

The Gasboard-9056 features full-process high-temperature heat tracing, ensuring that the sampling gas remains in a stable thermal state throughout transport and measurement. Combined with a self-cleaning sensor design, the system minimizes the impact of environmental variations and long-term operational drift. It also adopts isokinetic sampling technology, with a measurable flow capacity of up to 200 L/min, and supports external flow velocity signal input to enhance measurement representativeness under varying duct conditions. A specialized pre-treatment module is integrated into the system, enabling stable sample conditioning and reducing maintenance requirements.

The system also features automatic calibration capabilities, allowing for continuous self-correction without manual intervention. In addition, an automatic blowback function is included to effectively prevent dust accumulation and blockage within the sampling path, ensuring long-term operational reliability.

The system supports multi-range configuration and can be customized according to different application requirements, allowing it to adapt flexibly to a wide variety of industrial measurement conditions. It provides multiple communication interfaces, enabling flexible data transmission and simplified data management. Measurement results can be uploaded through various industrial communication protocols, facilitating seamless integration into CEMS platforms and plant-level environmental monitoring systems for centralized data collection and compliance reporting.

With Thailand’s recent tightening of air quality and industrial emission regulations, particulate matter monitoring is becoming a core part of how environmental rules are implemented. Reliable, continuous particle monitoring from both emission sources and surrounding air is now necessary. By jointly addressing ambient dispersion monitoring and flue gas emission control, Cubic provides two types of monitoring solutions that complement each other within a unified particulate matter monitoring ecosystem, enabling more comprehensive compliance management and more accurate environmental decision-making under increasingly stringent regulatory requirements.
