Lubrication of agricultural machinery

How to select the proper lubrication solution in the agricultural sector

Machinery operating within the agricultural sectors are an integral part of many state’s economies. Their functionality depends on the production of food which eventually ends up on our tables.

Industrial lubrication helps make this possible, offering solutions which are able to lubricate agricultural machinery components efficiently without interruptions.

Why is lubrication of agricultural machinery important?

During operation, agricultural machinery is faced with harsh environmental and climatic conditions, characterised by temperature changes along with the presence of dust and debris which can endanger reliability.

The installation of a lubrication solution has a dual function. A lubrication system provides the proper amount of lubricant ensuring the correct movement between mechanical parts while protecting components from external agents, thus extending the machine’s lifecycle.

Oil and grease lubrication for a round baler

An example of Oil lubrication in the agricultural industry is on the fixed chamber round baler chain, a machine used to collect and compress hay, making the famous round bales of hay which can be seen on the gricultural fields.

This type of lubrication system is capable of providing precise quantities of Oil directly to the chain points in an accurate and effective way. It is suitable for both applications which require single point lubrication and constant lubrication direct to the end points.

To lubricate the mechanism of the fixed chamber, a grease lubrication system is the most applicable solution. Since the chamber is opened, dust from straw and hay enters the bearings and mobile parts, creating a risk of breakage or damage. Grease, having a higher viscosity compared to Oil, has a longer service life, and will protect these components by keeping them clean.

When choosing the most suitable lubrication solution for agricultural machinery, it is important to understand what friction points need to be lubricated and what solution is best suited to ensure maximum machine operation.

The benefits of agricultural machinery lubrication

- Reduction of downtimes

- Protection of components from external agents

- Increase in productivity

- Elimination of costs and times of maintenance tasks
