Druck technology gives Hawk Racing the edge at Isle of Man TT
Druck delivers the best results
Baker Hughes Druck technology helps give Hawk Racing and Michael Dunlop the edge at iconic Isle of Man TT
Hawk Racing thanked the team at Druck, a Baker Hughes business, this week after its cutting-edge pressure measurement technology helped the team win the world-famous Isle of Man TT, including achieving a lap record (at an average speed of 134.5mph).
Amongst a range of data recorded by Druck’s sensors, Hawk’s Data Engineering Team was able to accurately determine front and rear brake pressure applied by rider, Michael Dunlop, and therefore optimize the dynamics of the motorcycle during braking to gain maximum performance on corner entry.
“The technology that Druck designs, develops and manufactures is helping us achieve some real success"
“Thank you to everyone at Druck for the support,” said Steve Hicken, owner of Hawk Racing. “The technology that Druck designs, develops and manufactures is helping us achieve some real success, not least an historic victory in the Isle of Man TT, one of the most famous races on the planet!
For example, optimizing the brake pressure using Druck’s sensors enabled us to push the bike to its limit and take the corners at maximum speed. I’m hopeful that the success will continue as we return to British Superbike Championship action at Knockhill (Scotland) later this month.”
“We’re one of the few companies worldwide manufacturing piezo-resistive high quality motorsport sensors from silicon wafers"
“With a 50-year legacy in pressure measurement, we’re proud that our unrivalled pressure measurement technology is providing Hawk with a competitive advantage and helping them improve performance”, said Jonny MacGregor, global engineering leader at Druck, who is also a GT (Gran Tourer) racing driver in the Britcar British Endurance Championship.
“We’re one of the few companies worldwide manufacturing piezo-resistive high quality motorsport sensors from silicon wafers, into a finished product that can withstand the punishing environment of top tier motorsport. Our lightweight sensors provide accuracy and reliability and deliver race teams marginal gains, which on the circuit are critical.”
The Druck pressure sensors have high temperature capability to 175 Degrees Celsius, and withstand the extreme vibration and shock associated with professional motorsport.
Since 1990, Druck products have been successfully applied across the motorsport sector, with its products chosen by teams from all leading motorsport series.
Founded in in 1972 in Leicester, U.K., Druck is today a part of Baker Hughes Industrial & Energy Technology (IET)’ Precision Sensing & Instrumentation product line and has grown into a global leader for pressure measurement supporting customers in more than 70 countries across a wide range of applications.
