DSTI Support Sends Local High School Robotics Team Full Steam Ahead
For the third consecutive year, DSTI continues support for Andover High School's robotics team, the "Butler Bots", in the worldwide 2017 FIRST Robotics Competition game - "FIRST STEAMWORKS".
MINNEAPOLIS, Minn. - July 12, 2017 - For the third consecutive year, DSTI continues support for Andover High School's robotics team, the "Butler Bots", in the worldwide 2017 FIRST Robotics Competition game - "FIRST STEAMWORKS".
85,000 students on 3,400 teams participated this year in the competition which sent students off on an intense six-week-long challenge to design, build, program, and test a robot to perform a set of tasks.
"It brings me joy working with students who share similar interests as myself as they continue to grow their skills in robotics," said DSTI Mechanical Engineer and Andover High School graduate Mark Dickey, who mentored the robotics team.
"This was a large team which posed some logistical challenges with everyone trying to work on a single product. To help keep all of the students engaged in the build, we implemented a modular design that allowed small groups to focus and take control of individual portions of the robot," added Dickey.
"Even though the team didn't qualify for the finals, the robot performed well and students tackled issues quickly between matches to minimize downtime."
"If our sponsorship went as far as inspiring even a few students to pursue a future in a high-demand science, technology, engineering or math (STEM) career, DSTI's investment was all the more worth it," said DSTI President Jeff Meister.
The Butler Bots placed 32 out of 63 teams in the 2017 Minneapolis Regionals.
