By using oil-free technology in rail transport, operators significantly reduce maintenance costs, also removing the requirement for oil level control, oil refilling and the disposal of waste oil. As a rule, the use of oil-free compressors allows for a reduction in life-cycle costs of 50 to 85%.

Future challenges

It is important for compressor manufacturers to keep pace with the industry and rise to the challenges and demands that the industry is setting. Currently particular attention is being given to further reducing the weight, noise and costs of the compressor that are built into the rail vehicles. Ultimately advancements in these areas will offer a better passenger experience and offer a greener more environmentally friendly transport for the future.
