Removing metal contamination from plastic processing lines

Removing metal contamination from plastic processing lines

Plastic manufacturers in Europe continue to invest in Eriez’ powerful PM Grate Magnets to improve product purity, prevent costly damage on downstream equipment and reduce processing downtime.

The Eriez PM Grate Magnet is employed for the removal of ferrous metal contamination from free-flowing materials. In particular, the plastics industry utilises the magnet for the removal of contamination from plastic pellets, flake and regrind prior to the injection moulding machine, extruder or compounding equipment.

The permanent magnetic separators have been successfully installed throughout companies in the UK, removing fine and weakly magnetic particles from material flow. They are available in 152mm (6”) and 203mm (8”), with a stainless steel housing, slide gate to shut off material flow, two banks of Rare Earth permanent magnets to 120°C and suitable for use up to 120ºC.

Lloyd Williams, Product Manager for Process Industries at Eriez Europe, comments “Eriez Europe is pleased to offer the PM Grate Magnets for immediate sale. Installation time is typically less than 5 minutes, providing a quick, effective solution to prevent metal contamination from plastic processing lines.”

Metal contamination can occur in just about every area of the typical plastic processing plant, from unloading resin to final packaging. Eriez offers a complete solution and the widest range of magnetic separators, metal separators and metal detectors to remove all types of metal from the process.

A free process review is also available for the inspection of existing separation and detection equipment, providing in-depth evaluation and recommendations for foreign

body removal and ensuring customers are compliant with regulatory quality requirements.
