Inside the CDU, the Components That Make Liquid Cooling Work
Pump Curves, Beta 5000 Filtration and Canned Motors: The Component Choices That Define CDU Reliability
A CDU transfers heat from one fluid source to another in a controlled way, separating the primary facility water loop from the secondary compute cooling loop. The pump is the core: centrifugal designs dominate, selected by operating point across efficiency, compactness and reliability. The brazed plate heat exchanger delivers the best duty per area, scaling to 2.5MW in in-row CDUs, and filtration protects microchannel cold plates at Beta 5000 or better, with cartridge filters under 25 microns and cleanable strainers above. Controls tie the unit together through PLCs and temperature, pressure, flow, level and quality sensors. EXTRCOOL provides one-stop liquid cooling solutions.
