P-in 25, S-out 30, Target 28: Why the 5-Degree Approach Exceeds a 3-Degree Budget and Where the Heat Balance Breaks
CDU commissioning starts from four measurement points: P-in for facility water entering as the primary cold inlet, P-out as the primary hot outlet, S-in for server return as the secondary hot inlet, and S-out leaving toward the servers, with the approach temperature defined as S-out minus P-in. With the primary inlet at 25 and supply at 30 against a target of 28, the approach reads 5 degrees while the budget allows only 3, and evidence collection rechecks probes, calibration and fluid-side load before flow, setpoint and dew-point control.
