CDU Selection, Decisions That Shape the Next Decade
Centralized vs Distributed, 105-110% Capacity and a 2-8°C LMTD: The CDU Decisions That Decide Fault Radius and Availability
CDU selection starts with centralized versus distributed: centralized units sit outside the cabinets with secondary piping and must hold rack-to-rack flow variation within 10 percent, widening the blast radius, while distributed units ride inside each cabinet and confine faults to one rack. Design capacity runs 105 to 110 percent of the calculated load on the liquid-cooled component thermal design rather than total rack power, and the log-mean temperature difference should sit between 2 and 8 degrees. Factory tests cover leak-tightness and monitoring, and site runs capture temperatures, flows and pressures from 0 to 100 percent load. EXTRCOOL provides one-stop liquid cooling solutions.
