Solutions with torque/angle current control

The eTensil range expands with a new line of electrical solutions to make the industrial tightening process even more flexible.

Solutions that make use of a torque/angle control system based on current absorption - an electronic technology offered by smart tools coupled with advanced power supply and control units in which the tightening torque is obtained by measuring the current absorbed by the motor, while the angle is measured by dedicated integrated Hall-effect sensors.

Operationally, this means that the tightening torque and angle can be adjusted during assembly simply by varying the corresponding parameter on the associated unit, making it possible to work on different applications/components with a single screwdriver. A great benefit to the operational flexibility required by assembly lines that cover an increasing number of component variations, which implies the use of different screw types and therefore different assembly torques, in addition to the various geometries.

The eTensil range with torque/angle control based on current absorption includes screwdrivers, nutrunner motors and automation solutions that combine the tested high performance of eTensil with power supply and control units that make these tightening systems one of the most advanced industrial production solutions in terms of efficiency and operational versatility.

It is these units that form the “smart core” of the systems because they are sophisticated instruments that not only provide the tools with the correct power supply, but also feature a large number of functions that can be programmed quickly, easily and intuitively.

The main functions that they offer are essential to quickly controlling a tightening process correctly and making it reliable. Here are some of them:

- They automatically recognize the tool connected and configure themselves immediately to its parameters, so operators cannot make initial setup errors

- They display the tightening outcome: the basic model displays OK/NOK together with the tightening time, while the advanced model displays the torque after each tightening operation together with the time and angle.

- They count the screws, turning the process into a powerful Poka Yoke method that makes it impossible to forget to tighten screws, aided also by an immediate display of the sequence of screws tightened with the bright LEDs above the unit display

- They detect process anomalies, for example stripped threads or screws already tightened

- They store up to 99 tightening operations, which can then be sent for data collection to calculate process statistics

- They communicate with the outside, the PLC or other devices, and can be controlled remotely

- If there are workpiece clamping jigs, a delayed jig release can be programmed to adapt the assembly rate and ensure operator safety

- The “Smart Thread” function ensures that they can effectively tighten self-tapping, self-threading and self-drilling screws, for which the final torque is lower than the initial tapping/threading torque

- Two-step strategies with different speeds can be created to speed up the production process (“Smart Speed” function)

- They solve tightening situations with critical joints, for example with flexible gaskets, or components made of rubber or other materials, as they verify that such gaskets are in place during assembly.

“Smart Pro Evo” programming also provides other important features, such as parametrisation of the tool tightening speed to make it easier to feed screws or set the tool speed.

Another important plus for electrical/electronic field, for example when inserting wires into connectors that must be untightened and then tightened again, is the option of setting the untightening angle and pause time between untightening and the subsequent tightening.

Threaded components can also be tightened with height-based rather than torque-based shut-off.

Electrical solutions that are efficient, easy-to-use, ideal green working tools with a high level of performance and reliability. They are versatile and smart, ideal for the needs of Industry 4.0 and can be programmed to integrate into a smart production organisation in any industrial sector from precision mechanics to automotive, and from electronics to household appliance assembly.
