Here we discover all the phases of the working station built by Kosma: from customer needs, to the design and development as well as the advantages of the solution.

Customer needs: design and build a high-throughput work island for an important manufacturer of false frames for sliding doors. Cycle times requested: 30 pieces per hour, one false frame every two minutes.

Fields of application: fixtures production.

Solution achieved: automatic working station that includes 6 MCA automatic tightening modules working simultaneously.

Main working station phases:

• Frame loading on dedicated structures and jigs; there are many steel frame models of different sizes, and they are especially difficult to assemble for different reasons: (sheet metal is very thin, no pilot holes, self-perforating screws)

• The tightening phases are fully automatic and do not require any operator intervention, except to load the screws.

Six Fiam MCA auto-feeding tightening modules work simultaneously to provide the following specifications:

o Simultaneous tightening on both sides of the frames. Not only vertical tightening from top to bottom, but also from the bottom top and tilted at +45° and -45° for the frames front plate that is mounted on an inclined surface

o The nutrunner motors used in the modules are pneumatic with automatic air shutoff and can reach the high speeds of up to 2500 rpm needed for self-drilling screws

o The tightening modules are installed on slides that move along tracks on the line to position them at the various tightening points. These tightening points are defined in programs managed by the system master PLC for the different formats. The tightening system also provides screw depth control using special sensors on the fastening slides

o Management of eventual anomalies. On the PLC display of the tightening module concerned shows a message to help the operator find the cause of the error and locate it in the island

• Unloading of assembled components onto a conveyor belt

• Packaging
