Collaborative robotic cell for the automatic assembly of hinges on uprights for electrical cabinets

Discover the solution developed by Tecnorobot with a Fiam MCA tightening modules integrated

In the field of assembly process automation, there are numerous applications aimed at improving efficiency and productivity: in this case, we present the one developed by Tecnorobot, , which has designed a collaborative robotic solution dedicated to automating the assembly process of hinges on uprights for electrical cabinets, enabling the customer to eliminate a task previously carried out entirely manually and characterized by high processing times.

The system is equipped with a FANUC CRX-10iA/L collaborative robot and integrates an MCA tightening module by FIAM, featuring automatic screw feeding and management, along with an air nutrunner motor with automatic shut-off.

The customer’s need was to increase productivity, improve process quality, and reduce manual operations related to picking and positioning screws during hinge assembly.

Thanks to the automatic feeding system, screws are oriented and transferred directly to the pneumatic screwdriver, ensuring process continuity and reducing downtime. The collaborative robot identifies the correct hinge assembly positions based on the length of the upright and automatically performs the tightening operations.

The integration of the robot, screw feeding system, and screwdriver ensures an extremely precise and repeatable process, guaranteeing the correct tightening of each screw and contributing to higher quality standards of the finished product.

Particular attention was given to production performance: the system is designed to operate on two workstations simultaneously, handling up to four uprights per cycle. This configuration allows the assembly of two 2,200 mm uprights in less than 50 seconds, significantly increasing productivity compared to manual processing.

Benefits of the solution:
- Complete automation of the hinge assembly process
- Elimination of manual screw picking and handling operations
- Improved tightening quality and consistency
- High process precision and repeatability
- Reduced cycle times
- Increased productivity
- Improved ergonomics and reduced repetitive tasks for operators
- Ability to handle different upright lengths without mechanical modifications

A reliable solution designed for production continuity, also developed thanks to Fiam’s collaboration during the design phase.
