FLIR: INSPECTING SUBSTATIONS AND TRANSMISSION LINES
Thermal imaging helps to minimise the cost of repair, maximise equipment and keep the power on for customers
A new FLIR technical note focuses on the impact a faulty connection can have on the operating efficiency and safety of a transmission system. This is why it’s important to inspect all connections regularly to ensure they are working optimally. However, this can be a challenge, as systems comprise of a lot of small connections and are often inaccessible.
Conducting regular infrared surveys of substations and transmission lines using thermal imaging devices provide a full picture of potential problems as connections get hot before they fail. They measure temperature from a safe distance and diagnose problems before outages occur.
