The RAVEN-EYE, non-contact radar open channel flow meter

Produced by the company FLOW-TRONIC located in Belgium, the RAVEN-EYE® is a non-contact area/velocity flow meter. This velocity radar sensor is combined to a level measurement sensor to create an area/velocity flow meter without contact.

The RAVEN-EYE® measures the surface velocity of the liquid. The level measurement is made with an ultrasonic, radar, pressure or any other level sensor. The RAVEN-EYE® uses the received level to calculate the flow.

The RAVEN-EYE® is suitable for measurements on rivers. Able to measure velocities ranging from 0,10 to 15 m/s, it can measure bi-directionally (upstream or downstream). It can be placed up to 15 m above the surface to be measured.

This flow meter has an open communication protocol and can be directly and easily connected to any kind of PLC (either portable or stationary). Its Modbus ASCII communication protocol (RS485 port) facilitates the integration and acquisition of SCADA or telemetry data. The RAVEN-EYE® has also a 4-20 mA output, proportional to the surface velocity. Not being in contact with the liquid to be measured, the RAVEN-EYE® allows almost no operating costs and works without maintenance.

This non-contact area/velocity flow meter is waterproof, has an IP68 protection class, is built without screws and has a self-diagnostic system (permanent verification of internal pression, temperature and humidity of the sensor).
