Panasonic Minas A5B servodrives on EtherCAT fieldbus for pressbrake

Two partner companies join their forces to develop a cutting-edge product with extreme performances

On our pressbrakes we only use Panasonic brushless motors and servodrives, because they're hands down the best in the world.

Since 2011, together with Panasonic Electric Works, we have been developing the application of the EtherCAT protocol (see Wikipedia, ethercat.org). We have worked side by side, focusing on the needs of the end users.

EtherCAT is an open industrial communication standard, reliable and expandable. It guarantees a communication speed as high as 250 μs, with a frequency response exceeding 2 kHz.

Panasonic servodrives are the optimum choice because they allow us to reach extreme backgauge positioning speeds, with top precision and repeatability thanks to 20-bit encoders. Panasonic brushless motors and EtherCAT servodrives allowed us to set the speed record for Z1-Z2 axes at 1600 mm/s (63 in/s). Also the X-axis, with its 500 mm/s speed (20 in/s), ranks among the fastest.

Motors are small and lightweight, allowing swift accelerations and decelerations. Digital servodrives actively correct errors and friction, and dampen vibrations and oscillation provoked by axes movement.

Panasonic listens to the needs of partner companies and converts them into groundbreaking solutions. We at Gasparini also believe that cooperation between companies is fundamental to meet the customer's demands, while keeping a cutting-edge level of innovation.
