Gates Sonic Tension Meter 550C Sets New Standards
Enhanced Design of Sonic Tension Meter Increases Competitive Edge for Service Engineers
LUXEMBOURG CITY, June. 22, 2021— Gates (NYSE: GTES), a leading global provider of application-specific fluid power and power transmission solutions, has released an upgrade of its successful drive belt installation and preventive maintenance tool, the Sonic Tension Meter (STM) 550C.
The new Gates STM 550C is an enhanced version of a device that’s already the first choice for professional service engineers who need to establish specific drive belt tensions for a wide range of machine applications installed across the industrial spectrum.
Like all previous models, the new Gates STM 550C is accurate to +/-1% and is designed for use with multi-ribbed belts, V-belts and synchronous drive belts manufactured by Gates. This latest model features a high-definition OLED display that will benefit those working regularly in low light conditions. An auto-shutdown feature that is activated after one minute of inactivity will also significantly extend battery life.
Key improvements include:
• Enhanced measuring range from 10 - 5,000 Hz
• Auto shutdown
• OLED display
The Gates STM 550C delivers the accuracy and consistency of measurement that engineers require. It is supplied complete with sensor, batteries and a test certificate, and is CE approved and RoHS compatible. Full operating instructions are available in a comprehensive user manual. Gates’ Design Flex™ Pro™ software, standard with each device, enables the precise calculation of belt tension settings for almost any installation. Additional technical support, available through local distributors and online, further highlights the importance of the tool to any preventive maintenance strategy.
Industrial belt drive systems are used to deliver the power for equipment such as conveyor belts, compressors, fans and pumps, employed in heavy mining and construction industries or in general industrial applications like bottling plants and materials handling operations. These installations feature a wide range of drive belts, with different spans and widths all subject to variable degrees of load and tension. The optimum tension for each drive belt is usually specific to a particular application. With the Gates STM 550C, service engineers now have access to a tool that can provide accurate measurements every time, no matter the situation.
