Retrofitting a jetty: Environmentally friendly and safe

The Austrian company ÖSWAG WERFT LINZ AG Nfg. GmbH & Co KG is a shipyard that specialises in technical service, maintenance, repairs, renovating and building inland water vessels on the Danube and on Central European lakes. In addition to passenger, government and freight vessels, the traditional company that was founded in 1840 also manufactures special products made of steel, such as sculptures for coastal resorts and pontoons, i.e. floating bodies made of steel. On the latter, the original hydraulic cylinders that were installed were no longer tight in one case and had to be replaced. The mechanical spindle jacks from haacon hebetechnik gmbh were selected because this supplier had a special controller in its range (the "electronic wave"), which provided a very easy replacement without affecting the steel construction.

The pontoon normally raises as the water level rises, meaning that height adjustment is not required. However, as the bridge head was in a shallow water zone below a weir, the pontoon was sometimes on the ground.

The two spindle jacks that are used are synchronised electronically. The lifting range is 1650 mm. They move 2 x 10 tonne loads.
