German testing machine manufacturer presents shear frame testing system for textile semi-finished products

COMPOSITES EUROPE Stuttgart is the European trade fair and forum for composites, technologies and applications. At COMPOSITES EUROPE Messe Stuttgart, more than 300 exhibitors from 30 different countries will present the latest material solutions and technologies from the entire value chain of the composites industry for the automotive, wind power, aerospace, construction and engineering sectors.

Hegewald & Peschke Mess- und Prüftechnik GmbH will present an inspekt table 50 kN to the visitors as an example of how universal testing machines from Hegewald & Peschke can be used in the field of testing fiber composites. For example, a shear frame testing system for textile semi-finished products will also be presented.

This shear frame testing system for characterising the draping behaviour of textile semi-finished products and the forming behaviour of fibre-reinforced plastics was developed by Hegewald & Peschke Mess- und Prüftechnik GmbH in cooperation with the Institute for Structural Lightweight Construction at Chemnitz Technical University. The aim of this project, funded by the Federal Ministry of Economics and Energy, was to determine the basic shear behaviour of semi-finished products, e.g. for use in simulative descriptions of draping and forming processes. The test system must take into account the versatile properties of existing semi-finished products and ensure reproducible investigations of functional properties and dependencies, such as textile basis weights, organic sheet thicknesses, weaving and fixing types, prestressing forces as well as forming speeds and temperatures.
