Testing the actuating force of wire strippers

Testing machine for component testing

Wire strippers can be used to safely, quickly and reliably remove insulation from electrical wires of various thicknesses. To ensure a high level of operating comfort when using the wire strippers, the actuating force that the operator must apply should not be too great. When testing this force, a defined maximum value must not be exceeded.

Technical features of the component testing machine

Hegewald & Peschke has designed a testing machine specifically for this component testing. The inspekt solo tensile testing machine is used as the testing frame. This is equipped with an electric cylinder. The configuration of the testing system makes it possible to perform component tests at a high speed with relatively low test forces. This enables low cycle times for component testing as part of quality assurance. At the same time, high testing accuracy is ensured. Specifically, the machine can realize test speeds between 0.5 µm/min and 2000 mm/min with a test force of 50 N. The resolution of the crosshead travel measurement impresses with a value of <0.05 µm. The constructively economical design of the testing machine ensures sustainable component testing.

Component testing with LabMaster testing software

The component testing machine is equipped with an electromagnetically operated locking device to secure the wire stripper during the test. After the start of the test sequence, the wire stripper is locked by a bolt so that it cannot be removed from the holder during the test. After the wire stripper has been loaded to a defined actuating force, a mark is placed on the wire stripper by means of an electromagnetically actuated pin. This provides information on whether the wire stripper meets the requirements for the maximum actuating force. The switching states of the external sensors are monitored by the test software and serve as a further switching condition for the next test step. The universal material and component testing software ensures the reliable integration of external devices and thus enables the time-synchronous acquisition of measured variables beyond load, displacement and strain.
