* Award ceremony by Ranga Yogeshwar at the summit for medium-sized businesses in Ludwigsburg

Offenburg/Ludwigsburg

In the 25th anniversary round of the TOP 100 innovation competition, Peter Huber Kältemaschinenbau AG has achieved a top position once again: The Offenburg-based company takes first place in size class C (companies with more than 200 employees) for the second time in a row. Huber was the first company in the history of the TOP 100 competition to successfully defend the title of Innovator of the Year. The "Innovator of the Year" will be awarded on June 29 , 2018 as part of the 5th German summit for medium-sized businesses in Ludwigsburg by the mentor of the competition, Ranga Yogeshwar.

In the jury's reasoning for choosing Peter Huber Kältemaschinenbau AG as number 1, the following was said:

"With around 320 employees (Germany), Peter Huber Kältemaschinenbau AG develops and produces high-precision temperature control systems with a temperature range of -125°C to 425°C, which are used, among other things, for stress tests on mechanical or electronic components and for material inspections.

For the third time since 2012 and 2017, the Offenburg-based company has succeeded in clinching overall victory in one size class. Particularly impressive is the way in which the company continues to develop despite their technological, economic and TOP 100 successes. They achieved this by considering the design of internal processes and external customer focus as well as their product portfolio. Peter Huber's innovative activities are supported in particular by his self-image as a technology leader, who repeatedly succeeds in shaping the industry with disruptive innovations. A current example of this is the successful entry into a young growth market: the cannabis industry. Thanks to the increasing legalization of cannabis in several US states, it is recording considerable growth rates, although there is also demand for temperature control solutions as part of the processing process. This demonstrates in a special way the agility and innovative power of the mechanical engineering company, which entered the market within a very short time.

In summary, it can be said that Huber succeeds in managing the tension between openness and flexibility as well as the necessary clear structures in an exemplary manner. The distinctive, innovation-oriented way of thinking and acting influences both technology development and product design as well as internal and external relationship management".

In the 25th round of the TOP 100 innovation competition, the scientific management reviewed 471 applications on behalf of compamedia. Franke and his team determined around 100 parameters in five evaluation categories as test criteria. 288 companies were successful and received the TOP 100 seal this year (max. 100 per size class). "It is incredibly fascinating how the TOP 100 companies tackle challenges. With their creativity, determination and courage, they are the ones who create what we need as a society: innovative solutions to problems and, consequently, prosperity, growth and employment," says Professor Franke on the occasion of the award ceremony of the companies.

This exceptional position of the top innovators is also illustrated by the figures for this year's TOP 100 round: Among the award winners are 120 world and national market leaders. Over the past three years, all top innovators have registered a total of 4,511 patents. Their sales growth in the previous three years was 21.1 percentage points above the growth of their respective industries. They recently generated 40 percent of their sales with market innovations and innovative improvements. This result turns companies into job engines: Between 2017 and 2019 they will create around 14,000 new jobs.
