Metromeet 2021 reaffirms its international position as a metrology event

Intelligent Metrology for a sustainable and efficient digital factory

The 17th edition of the Metromeet International Conference has been full of surprises, not only because of its one-day online format, but because the Innovalia Group, organizer of the event, has highlighted the needs of Industry 4.0.

The first Metromeet conference took place in 2005, its objective was to present the latest technological advances in Industrial Dimensional Metrology area. Sixteen years later, this event has become a benchmark in the sector, since it has managed to bring together the highest representatives of the metrology industry with the greatest international projection over the years.

Some of the collaborating companies this year have been Innovalia Metrology, Tekniker, GF Machine Solutions, Zeiss and researchers from technology centers such as DMSC (USA) and VNIIMS (Russia) have even attended. Without forgetting the sponsors, Innovalia Metrology and Volume Graphics, who have managed to liven up the breaks, or rather “metrolabs”, with their presentations.

The group’s president, Jesús de la Maza, opened the day with an inspiring presentation. Emphasizing the importance of incorporating metrology into manufacturing processes to increase and optimize productivity. A goal desired by both SMEs and multinationals. Toni Ventura, CEO of Datapixel, continued with a tutorial on the new practices of Digital Metrology in Smart Industry, ensuring that the only way to achieve zero defects in manufacturing is through metrology.

One of the most interesting challenges presented in the morning session was the development of an intelligent tool for the aeronautical sector carried out by Aernnova, AITIIP and Tekniker. The project, called INNOTOOL, aims to improve the current state of materials and manufacturing processes, combining high-speed production, high automation and the use of new thermoplastic materials.

Borja de la Maza, from Innovalia Metrology, presented a machine tool solution, M3MH, a unique measurement and verification software that allows a direct connection with the CNC. A revolutionary module of the M3 platform that manages the optimization of machine tool processes through measurement.

The morning ended with contributions from Dr. Valery Lysenko from the Russian Scientific Research Institute of the Metrological Service and Dr. Roberto Pérez, responsible for digital transformation at GF Machining Solutions. All of them stressed the importance of metrology in the industry in order to obtain production processes with zero defects.

In the afternoon session we met experts in metrology such as Dr. Herminso Villarraga-Gómez, Manager of X-ray Quality Solutions at ZEISS, who demonstrated that X-ray microscopes could expand dimensional measurement as we know it today. Jennifer Herron was another of the evening’s star speakers, the CEO of Action Engineering and a member of the DMSC Board of Directors, she presented us with the QIF 3.0 which is currently approved as an ISO standard. This news is a revolution, as QIF is a standard language and will mean an improvement in the interoperability of 3D metrology data to the world.

Finally, we had the pleasure of listening to the presentation of Dr. Oscar Lázaro, General Director of the Innovalia Association. His fascinating proposal was “5GROWTH: 5G metrology for the 5G industry”, it seeks the implementation of 5G in the industry. All this will mean greater increases in productivity and flexibility in factories, since it will automate many processes and avoid errors.

Metromeet, the International Metrology Conference not only provides scientific-technical knowledge, but is also an exchange of highly valuable industrial manufacturing experiences for participants. We are waiting for you in the next edition!
