RTO system for the recombination of 100,000 tons/year methyl methacrylate and waste liquid
Advanced VOC and Waste Liquid Oxidation System for 100,000 t/y MMA Production
Acceptance Time: March 2021
Location: Zibo, Shandong
Solution: RTO
Pollution Source: MMA off-gas
Capacity: 71,603 Nm³/h
This regenerative thermal oxidizer (RTO) system is designed to treat the process waste liquid and reconstituted liquid generated during the production of a 100,000-ton/year methyl methacrylate (MMA) unit. The system is capable of handling approximately 9,600 kg/h of concentrated process waste liquid, 3,000 kg/h of biochemical waste liquid, and 1,264 kg/h of reconstituted liquid.
The waste liquid and reconstituted liquid are fully combusted within the incinerator, where temperatures reach 950–1,100°C. The resulting high-temperature flue gas passes through the waste heat boiler and high-temperature plate heat exchanger for energy recovery. In the high-temperature zone, ammonia or urea is injected as a reducing agent to selectively react with NOx (SNCR). After this stage, the flue gas undergoes rapid cooling, desulfurization, and dust removal before being discharged safely into the atmosphere.
In addition to ensuring compliant discharge of wastewater and reconstituted liquid, the system efficiently recovers combustion and cooling heat, generating approximately 22 t/h of 4.3 MPaG, 435°C superheated steam.
The facility occupies an area of about 60 m × 30 m and includes a wastewater stripping tower, liquid waste incinerator, SNCR system, waste heat recovery system, semi-dry scrubber tower, induced draft fan, chimney, and related auxiliary units.
The first phase of the project was commissioned in August 2020, followed by the second phase, which successfully completed acceptance in March 2021.
