High-Efficiency VOC & Off-Gas Control System for Carbon Fiber Manufacturing

Client Profile

This off-gas treatment system was designed and manufactured by RUIDING for a well-known company in the carbon fiber industry. The system integrates regenerative thermal oxidizers (RTO), direct-fired thermal oxidizers (TO), waste heat recovery units, and full automatic control systems, providing a comprehensive and high-efficiency waste gas treatment solution.

Solution

The low-concentration off-gas generated from low-carbon and high-carbon production processes is treated in a five-chamber RTO, where the gas is heated to approximately 900°C for complete oxidation. After combustion, the high-temperature flue gas passes through regenerative ceramic media and then through an air preheater, reducing its temperature to 180–200°C before being discharged through the client’s chimney via an induced draft fan.

The high-concentration off-gas is treated in a water-cooled wall TO system. With additional fuel and air, combustion temperatures exceed 900°C, ensuring full thermal decomposition of organic components. The high-temperature flue gas then flows through superheaters, evaporators, economizers, and bag filters, and is finally exhausted by an induced draft fan in full compliance with emission standards.

The RTO system has a treatment capacity of 60,000 Nm³/h, achieving compliant emissions while simultaneously preheating 42,000 Nm³/h of process gas to 180°C for reuse in upstream carbon fiber production. The TO system handles 1,600 Nm³/h of low-carbon waste gas and 1,100 Nm³/h of high-carbon waste gas. Additionally, it generates 3.7 t/h of 2.3 MPaG, 300°C superheated steam, which can be sold externally, providing notable economic benefits.

The first line of this EPC project achieved successful single-pass start-up in October 2020, meeting emission standards from the first run and officially entering stable commercial operation.
