How to judge highly reflective materials?

As we all know, laser cutting machine has become the new favorite of many industries with its high precision, high speed and high efficiency. Laser processing has the characteristics of high efficiency, high density and high flexibility.

In the process of laser processing, the processed material will absorb the laser and convert it into heat energy. As the temperature increases, the material will undergo changes such as phase change, melting, and vaporization, and different power, density, and material will cause different changes on the surface, and different states and changes have a great impact on the absorption of laser light.

Whether cutting or welding, highly reflective materials are a traditional problem in the field of laser processing. "Can your equipment process highly reflective materials?" is a question that many customer manufacturers are concerned about.

What is a highly reflective material? The following four methods quickly teach you to judge what is a high-reflection material:

Method 1: Resistivity judgment

In general, the higher the resistivity, the higher the absorption rate of the laser light. The smaller the resistivity, the lower the absorption rate (high inversion);

Method 2: Judgment of Surface Structure

The rougher the surface of the material, the higher the absorption rate during processing; if it is rough enough (even copper), laser processing is not high reflection.

The smoother the surface of the material, the lower the absorption rate during processing; reaching a certain degree of smoothness (even stainless steel), laser processing is also highly reflective.

Method 3: Judgment of Surface State

Generally speaking, the higher the surface of the material is in a liquid state or the higher the temperature, the higher the absorption rate of the laser light. In general, the absorption rate or low temperature of the solid state will usually be lower than that of the liquid state.

Method 4: Judgment of laser output wavelength

The wavelength of the laser output is different; the material will exhibit different absorptivity.

Strictly speaking, for laser processing, in fact, high reflection is only a relative concept. It can be judged whether it belongs to high reflection processing through comprehensive factors such as surface structure, surface state, resistivity, and laser wavelength.
