What is the IP phone? What is the working principle of IP phone?

IP telephones, also known as VoIP telephones, are telephones that use Internet protocol instead of circuit-switched PSTN. The IP phone is connected to the Internet through an Ethernet cable (not a telephone jack), and is connected to the IP address of a VoIP provider or a hosted PBX provider on the Internet. From the user's perspective, it works similar to a traditional phone, but it works better.

IP phones have various shapes and multiple operating systems. Some look and feel like a traditional business phone, and some have more in common with Apple or Android tablets. Another style of IP phone is a conference phone with a speaker on the top and three microphones around it. Telepresence IP phones are more like a mini TV studio with one or more cameras and one or more screens of different sizes. Video conference phones encode and decode them into a video format instead of an audio format, but the method they perform is the Internet protocol, so video phones are IP phones. Software such as Skype can also be an IP phone, although it is usually treated as a soft phone.

IP phones can be powered by an Ethernet cable without using power. This is called PoE. PoE is ideal for wiring telephones without power. In contrast, many IP phones have Wi-Fi when they can be powered on, but there is no easy-to-use Internet jack. Some high-end VoIP phones have Bluetooth, so you can connect a headset, and the phone can be anywhere. IP phones also have Ethernet pass-through, which means you can plug one end into a router and the other end into a computer. Some IP phones have gigabit channels, while others only have high-speed channels.

The two largest manufacturers of IP phones are Polycom and Cisco, although other brands such as Avaya, snom and Grandstream are its three largest competitors. No IP phone brand or model can really stand out. The most important thing is whether the model is suitable for you and within your price range. Similarly, the most expensive phone can handle many lines, but the same phone suitable for the receptionist may also have the features that a powerful supervisor wants.
