One for all: an appealing all-rounder for all saw users

The KASTOwin range consists of five fully-automated bandsaws that cover cutting ranges from 330 to 1,060 mm. In addition, the machines are universally suitable for use with various types of steel. This makes the KASTOwin range a flexible solution for numerous applications. The various sizes are all designed in line with the same construction, while the components used are largely identical. This means that KASTO can offer the new saws at considerably lower prices than comparable products.

"Our aim was to develop an all-round solution which could fulfil the majority of our customers'' usual requirements. Many companies do not want expensive custom products and instead prefer cheaper, economical standard solutions," explains Hilmar Gehrmann, product manager for KASTOwin at KASTO. "The high proportion of common parts within the range reduces the costs for material procurement, manufacturing and assembly in a modern synchronised assembly line, and we pass this advantage of KASTOwin – Made in Germany – on to our customers," points out KASTO managing director Armin Stolzer.

Meanwhile, quality remains a central issue, as a glance at the technical details shows: all KASTOwin band saws feature a frequency-controlled drive that enables cutting speeds of 12 to 150 metres per minute.

For all machine sizes, the saw band is hydraulically tightened and looped around hydraulic band guides. KASTO engineers place particular value on trimming both the hydraulic power unit and the drives for high energy efficiency.

Ball screw drives ensure controlled cutting and material feed movements. KASTOrespond is a new system that sensitises the saw frame feed movement via the ball screw sprindle. The tractive forces on the tool are converted into corresponding feed movements via a newly-developed software program.

A screw conveyor ensures the safe, clean removal of chips. The material clamping vises with retraction unit guarantee reliable processes in automatic operation. The offcut length is just 35 mm, while the shortest possible section length is 10 mm. For simple, intuitive operation, the KASTOwin saws are equipped with the innovative touch-screen SmartControl unit, which monitors and controls all relevant sawing and order parameters.

The machine has been fully enclosed in line with currently applicable safety requirements. With smart solutions in terms of hydraulics and sheet metal coverings, the operator benefits from easy inspection capability and good accessibility in set-up mode and single-cut operation.

Each KASTOwin saw is available with two different band widths. In addition, KASTO offers an extensive range of accessories for its machines. This includes various chip conveyors, hydraulic layer clamping equipment, a laser for cutting line projection and an automatic initial zero measurement. For specific requirements, KASTO supplies saws with a performance package featuring a double chip removal brush and greater drive power. A safety package, comprising integrated monitoring of the cutting sequence, cooling water flow and cutting speed, is also available upon request. In the case of extreme operating temperatures, KASTOwin saws can also be equipped with a heating or cooling package.
