When talking about industrial networking applications, stable and seamlessly data transmission is essential in the system. That’s why redundancy is introduced into networks to improve the reliability. The idea of redundancy is that when one device fails, another one can automatically take over. Korenix has developed and patented numerous technologies to offer robust and reliable network connection. Korenix patented protocols not only allows Korenix industrial switches or network equipment to support the standard protocols but also allows Korenix products to integrate with switches from third-party suppliers. In this article, standard and Korenix- patented protocols that are supported by Korenix switches will be introduced.

Korenix Multiple Super Ring (MSR): a technology that combines various redundancy features including Ring Master (RM) Redundancy, Rapid Super Ring (RSR), Trunk Ring, Multi Ring, Rapid Dual Homing (RDH) and Super Chain. These technologies are able to re-establish the connection and restore the broken ring extremely quickly.

Rapid Super Ring: Korenix RSR technology guarantees the best redundancy time (5ms failure recovery / 0ms link restoration). Also, it supports hybrid copper and fiber connections.

Ring Master Redundancy: While the Ring Master (RM) is the only ring, Korenix patented RM Redundancy technology solves the critical problem and guarantees the ring is always well- controlled. Each switch other than the RM is Backup RM. One of the backup RM will automatically take over the role immediately if the RM fails.

Trunk Ring: It combines port trunk and MSR technology, which allows you to increase the bandwidth from 100M to 1000M and increase the level of redundancy. It is a recommended technology for applications that require high bandwidth.

Multi Ring: It supports up to 16 rings on a single switch and provides the simplest way to connect multiple rings together.

Rapid Dual Homing: It is a technology that allows two rings to connect freely through multiple links without complexity (ex, 1 to 1, 1 to N, N to 1 or N to N). Recovery and reconnection times are extremely fast. (50ms recovery / 0ms restoration)

Super Chain: It is a technology used to increase redundancy when adding new switches to an existing network. Improve the flexibility, scalability and compatibility of the entire network topology. It is a technology recommended in applications that require increasing network topology, increasing redundancy.

ERPS V1 (Ethernet Ring Protection Switching V1): allows ring configurations with switches from different manufacturers. Moderate failover times 50ms recovery, 0ms restoration.

ERPS V2 (Ethernet Ring Protection Switching V2): allows easy expansion by adding unlimited number and levels of rings. Each ring operates independently and the recovery time in all rings are deterministic, 50ms recovery time and 50ms restoration.

RSTP (Rapid Spanning Tree Protocol): the main purpose of RSTP is to be able to connect switches from different manufacturers with any network topology. It is a very flexible and secure protocol. However, the recovery time is not deterministic and depends on the network topology.

VRRP (Virtual Router Redundancy Protocol): the VRRP increases the availability and reliability of routing paths through default and automatic gateway selections on an IP subnetwork group. If one router breaks down, one of the other group members can take place of it by forwarding the traffic.

Wireless Redundancy

Dual Radio Wireless Redundancy: Most Korenix wireless devices offer dual radio redundancy and can be configured with dual band (2.4G and 5G) in 802.11a / b / g / n / ac modes. By connecting the two Wi-Fi interfaces to the same node, the two links can backup each other. Users can determine which is the primary and which is the secondary.

RSR Redundant Gateway: JetWave products support RSR Redundant Gateway technology: the main and redundant gateways share the same settings. If the main gateway breaks down or the RSR ring shows abnormal, the backup gateway is activated to ensure the edge client devices can access the internet through the latter.
