SMAB's update

The SMAB off-axis modular encoder now offers higher resolution up to 24 bits and adds the BiSS interface. The mechanical characteristics remain unchanged, therefore it is perfectly compatible with the previous version.

• Flat ring with large through bore (Ø 80 mm / 3.149”)

• Off-axis installation

• Resolution up to 24 bits and SSI or BiSS interfaces

• Protection rate up to IP69K

• Perfect for integration into motors, robots, radars, and antennas

It's update time for the SMAB off-axis modular encoder from Lika Electronic. It maintains its own unique characteristics and now adds a higher resolution up to 24 bits and the BiSS serial interface as an alternative to the SSI one.

The mechanical characteristics remain unchanged. It must be paired with the MRAB axial ring and operates with reliable contact- and wear-free magnetic scanning.

The ring is ultra flat (it is 6 mm / 0.236” thick only) and has a large through bore (Ø 80 mm / 3.149”, up to Ø 95 mm / 3.74” on request). The readhead is mounted off-axis over the ring and the poles are magnetized axially. The shaftless low profile and off-axis installation allow the measuring system to be easily integrated into confined spaces. The electronics are fully overmoulded and the mechanical housing guarantees up to IP69K protection rate. Therefore SMAB is able to cope with dust, oil, and liquids and offers excellent durability under adverse conditions and even harsh wash-down environments.

It is also equipped with an integral LED, it is designed to inform of the working condition and the compliance with the mounting tolerances alike. Both cable and M12 connector outputs are available. The compact slim design and the high rotational speed that can be achieved enable the SMAB to be well suited for installation in large diameter shafts and even critical industrial environments and confined spaces, in particular in motors, robots, radars, and antennas.
