Mazak to help next generation ‘Get up to Speed’ with CNC programming challenge

Yamazaki Mazak is proud to take part in the 2017 Get Up to Speed (GUTS) Engineering and Manufacturing event at the Magna Science Adventure Centre, Rotherham, on 26th April.

Yamazaki Mazak is proud to take part in the 2017 Get Up to Speed (GUTS) Engineering and Manufacturing event at the Magna Science Adventure Centre, Rotherham, on 26th April.

The event, which is in its seventh year, is aimed at profiling the broad opportunities available to young people in the North of England who are keen on exploring a future career in the engineering and manufacturing sectors.

Mazak, which runs an extensive apprenticeship programme from its European Headquarters in Worcester, will also be exhibiting at the event. A team of engineers will be on hand to provide young visitors, as well as parents and teachers, with expert insight into the world of advanced CNC metal cutting. The Mazak stand will also be showcasing simulators from its revolutionary SMOOTH Technology control system – the world’s fastest CNC. Those attending GUTS will be able to operate the 19” touch screen control panel themselves, and experience the new Graphical User Interface which has helped machine operators dramatically reduce programming time and monitor all critical machining data from one single page view.

Mazak has a footprint in all of the UK’s key industrial sectors; ranging from food and beverage through to aerospace and oil & gas, providing machines to both the supply chain and direct to OEMs. Notably, Mazak machines are used extensively for the high-precision machining of racing car components, with a total of 33 machines installed at the McLaren Technology Centre in Surrey.

Dave Barnett, Learning & Development Manager at Yamazaki Mazak UK, comments: “The North of England was the heartland of the industrial revolution and, while the products made and machinery used has progressed dramatically, the area is still firmly rooted in manufacturing.

“The GUTS event is a fantastic platform for young people from the region to come and experience for themselves the exciting career opportunities that are available in UK manufacturing at this moment in time. We’re very proud to join the event and can’t wait to showcase the innovations our Smooth Technology brings to manufacturing. The Magna Science Adventure Centre is an attraction in its own right, which should make the event a brilliant day out.”
