EDF Lab Saclay: Training center and R&D

Started in February 2013, with an investment of 400 000 k€, the construction of EDF’s training center and R&D ends. Spread over 120 000 m2, the 78 000 m² of EDF LAB SACLAY will welcome 1400 researchers.

Designed by the French architect Francis Soler, 4 circular buildings with various features and sizes, perfect blend me-tal and glass envelopes. They are called: EMERAUDE, AZUR, OPALE and IROISE, referring to the French coast.

EMERAUDE is a building dedicated to experimental research. This is a cylinder diameter of 42 meters, comprising on 3 levels a peripheral circular gateway 360 ° width of 1500 mm.

These gateways were designed with industrial floors Meiser and installed by the company SMAC (Agence Paris Nord 2 - CS80013 - 20/23 allée des Erables - Bat G- 95956 ROISSY - Mr EL ISSEINE, Head of Sector).

The originality of this project is to implement these rectangular profiles to form 3 circular walkways. MEISER then proposed industrial floors Stainless steel AISI 304L length 1601 to 2008 mm, width 126 mm, thickness = 2 mm, with a perforation TOLPICOT (5/8 holes stamped upwards ea 23 mm).

It was decided to leave blade air between each profile, 15 mm longitudinally (in the direction of the circumference) and 18 mm laterally (in the direction of the radius).

It was necessary to make 2 cuts of 2.14 ° on each profile to obtain identical sectors (see map), in response to this pro-blem of circular walkways.

The 3 walways represent 2 508 TOLPICOT profiles, about 600 m2 and 17 tonnes.

Meiser also provided for the building EMERAUDE, pressed grating galvanized mesh 19x19 and 30x19 for cover flues patios.
