150 Years for Metso

Metso becoming Metso has become quite the journey.

Metso has a very rich history. Beginning way back in 1868, but not under the name Metso.

Erik Jan Hammarberg establishes the Sunds Bruk ironworks in Sweden, laying the foundation for the future Metso. Metso’s various areas of expertise start to develop around the world when Metso’s predecessor companies expand their product ranges and reach through organic growth.

In 1999, Valmet Corporation and Rauma Corporation merge to form Metso Corporation, a conglomerate with combined annual sales of about $7 billion and almost 23,500 employees. At the time of the merger, Rauma was known for its mining, aggregates, foundry, forest machinery and valve solutions. Valmet’s portfolio consisted of paper and board machines, and car contract manufacturing.

There is plenty of roadmaps to be reviewed, and many more to still be discovered. We can celebrate a milestone that is very unique in the world, and we at Metso are very proud of the accomplishment. But our story is not over and still there is a lot to be written.
