Pneumatic motors – which specification for which appliance?

list of a pneumatic motor’s characteristics and which appliance or specific needs they are particularly well adapted to.

Air motors have distinct specifications which can make them a valuable part, sometimes an essential part, in certain equipment. Below is a list of a pneumatic motor’s characteristics and which appliance or specific needs they are particularly well adapted to. Whatever your requirement, you’ll find the right air motor!

#ATEX certified pneumatic motor.

Air motors are particularly recommended for use in dangerous environments where the risk of sparks or high temperatures could ignite explosive gases, dust particles or fumes.

#A pneumatic motor that stops at a pre-set calibration.

When the applied load is heavier than the motor’s maximum torque, an air motor effectively “cuts out” without any ill effects. It’s not so simple in the case of an electric motor, which may overheat when a load is too heavy. If your appliance requires the motor to stop at a set torque then you should definitely think about choosing a pneumatic motor. This specification is especially sought-after for all screwing, tightening and bolting appliances.

#The power delivered by a pneumatic motor depends on the pressure, the airflow and its operating level.

For each air motor, there is an operating point at which the motor delivers maximum power. There are, however, an infinite number of other operating points, depending on the torque and speed required. This high-level flexibility is ideal for appliances that require variable torques and/or speeds and power, for example in appliances used for opening and closing valves.

#Pneumatic motors can obtain constant speeds whatever the load applied.

Thanks to the integrated gearbox, it’s easy to obtain a constant speed. This characteristic is of interest for all mixer appliances, where you want a regular speed whatever the viscosity levels or variations of the mixture.

#A key advantage of pneumatic motors is they are very compact.

For any given power level, they are 4 to 6 times smaller and lighter than an electric motor. This gives them a critical edge if you’ll be using your appliance in situations where space is limited or if choosing portable equipment where weight is a key factor.

#You can guarantee the pneumatic motor’s torque using a clutch system.

As long as the air motor is lubricated and well serviced, the Modec centrifugal clutch system ensures the motor will start, even when loaded, up to a certain torque level. This resolves more than 95% of the problems that operators encounter regarding torque control and starting up when loaded.

# Pneumatic motors are strong. You can use them in sensitive, explosive and dust-filled environments.

The advantage of pneumatic motors is that they can operate in extreme conditions. They are not susceptible to humidity, dust, heat, magnetic fields or radiation, nor is there any danger of explosion.
