RINA new certificate 2024

It’s not just about “marine” motors. Any Motive motor, standard or atex or brake motor, marine or not, is covered by this free certification (free for the client).

It’s therefor a certification of all our three phase motors performance data

It is quite rare to get such a tough certification on a whole and wide range of motors, and the reason is that RINA does not test samples, but all motors ratings.

This is however not something new at Motive, but the old RINA type approval for marine motors, whose first issue is dated 2019 (see Newsletter), had expired few months ago and, furthermore, it did not include the IE4 motors. So, here it is the new one.

In fact, RINA had now to supervise the load tests also of all the additional (mainly the IE4 ones) motors one by one, like it already did in past. Yes, it’s not just about “marine”, it is also a certification of

- those type tests that certify what we declare in our catalogues,

- those that you can find in https://www.motive.it/en/rapporti.php,

- those whose charts are in the datasheets coming out of our (also free) configurator https://www.motive.it/en/configuratore.php,

- those whose data are printed in our nameplates and

- those whose data are fitting also with the routinary tests that you can download from https://report.motive.it/ , serial number by serial number, unit by unit, on the 100% of our motors, final testing positions that, like the rest of our organization, is periodically audited by RINA, like TUV does for our ISO9001 certification and for the ISO80079-34 ATEX certification.

RINA is a member of IACS, thus worldwide recognized and offering the same certification value of all main marine certification bodies (https://iacs.org.uk/membership/iacs-members)

We will never stop reminding anyone that in a field like ours, where the client cannot check the efficiency of a motor (it should be able to measure the torque load of the shaft to complete the calculation of Wout/Win=Eff), where the load type test reports are kept (by others) secret, and where there are no external control bodies, a motor manufacturer can be very tempted to declare an efficiency that is higher than the true one, or play even with the service factor or the real power. And that is in fact unfortunately common. So, one could sell something having a lower cost and value at an undeserved price. We could also do like that and more simply sell just a price, but, since 2011, we started adopting another strategy, the one of transparency. As a result, our type test reports are the most complete, our laboratory had been ISO 17025 certified, and we made them public in our website. Same for the routinary final tests, as already mentioned. As far as we know, we remain a rare bird in our field. See https://www.motive.it/en/articoli-94-.html if you want to go deeper into this topic.

Further to this, Motive had also been admitted by RINA in 2015 to the alternative testing scheme (Statement Nr. 2015/MI/01/537) in conformity with RINA Rules, either for essential or nonessential service.
