NETZSCH becomes part of modern battery cell production in Germany and Europe
Electricity storage, energy and mobility turnaround dominate the headlines. Above all, experts see a growing demand for batteries for the automotive industry, in building technology or for power tools and smart devices.
Electricity storage, energy and mobility turnaround dominate the headlines. Above all, experts see a growing demand for batteries for the automotive industry, in building technology or for power tools and smart devices. According to studies by the McKinsey Battery Insights team, global battery production capacity is expected to reach up to 4.7 terawatt hours in 2030.
Center for modern battery cell production in Münster
To ensure that growth can be successfully managed and efficient production can be established, the Fraunhofer Research Facility Battery Cell FFB is building a center for the development of modern and scalable battery cell production at the site in Münster. With the second construction phase of the "FFB Fab", Fraunhofer FFB plans to commission a large-scale production line for battery cell production. The production will be flexible, which means that battery manufacturers and industrial companies along the entire value chain of battery cell production can test all or selected process steps and optimize them for their purposes.
NETZSCH wins contract
The production line will have a usable area of about 20,000 square meters and the machine capacity for electrode production will be about 6.8 gigawatt hours per year. As part of the second construction phase of the "FFB Fab", NETZSCH-Feinmahltechnik GmbH in Selb has been awarded a contract in the double-digit millions following a public tender to build a plant for multiple applications for the production of anode and cathode material. The plant will be able to produce anode and cathode material on one production line and will include mixers, mills, vessels and tanks.
This is an important milestone for NETZSCH to further establish itself in this growing market and to contribute to the energy and mobility transition. NETZSCH is helping to improve the efficiency and scalability of manufacturing for battery cell production worldwide.
