Differences and Application Directions of Oil-Immersed Transformers and Dry-Type Transformers

Product performance

Oil-immersed transformers (oil transformers) and dry-type transformers (dry transformers) each have their own merits. Oil transformers utilize oil as a cooling and insulating medium, offering excellent heat dissipation, making them suitable for large-capacity and outdoor environments. They also boast relatively low costs and strong overload capabilities. However, they are prone to oil pollution and maintenance issues.

On the other hand, dry transformers do not require oil, making them clean, environmentally friendly, and easy to maintain. They are ideal for fire-proof, explosion-proof environments, exhibit good moisture resistance, and are suitable for high-humidity settings. Nevertheless, their heat dissipation capacity is limited, their capacity is relatively smaller, and their costs are higher.

When making a choice, it is essential to comprehensively consider factors such as actual needs, environmental conditions, and cost-benefit analysis. Oil transformers are suitable for large-capacity, cost-sensitive applications, while dry transformers are more appropriate for situations with high requirements for environmental protection and safety.
