Exhaust Pipe Insulation Blanket for High Temperature Piping

An exhaust pipe insulation blanket is a removable thermal insulation system designed to fit directly around high-temperature exhaust piping. It is used where hot exhaust pipes create excessive radiant heat, elevated surface temperatures or thermal exposure risks for nearby equipment, hoses, wiring and personnel.

Unlike a conventional metal heat shield, which is normally installed between a heat source and a protected component, an exhaust pipe insulation blanket surrounds the pipe itself. This direct insulation method helps contain heat closer to the source and can provide more uniform thermal protection along straight pipes, elbows, flanges and other exhaust sections.

High-temperature exhaust piping is found in many industrial applications, including diesel engines, generator sets, marine propulsion systems, stationary power equipment and heavy machinery. A blanket that does not closely follow the pipe or component can leave exposed areas where heat escapes. For long exhaust piping runs, multiple blanket sections can be designed so that individual areas can be removed without dismantling the complete insulation system.

The required insulation thickness depends on several factors, including exhaust temperature, pipe diameter, ambient conditions and the desired outer surface temperature. Increasing insulation thickness can improve thermal resistance, but available clearance around the pipe must also be considered.
